The Midlands (East) Branch of the Western Front Association meets on the second Friday of each month (except in August) at St Peter’s Rooms. Meetings start at 7.30pm and include a guest speaker who will cover a topic related to the First World War.

”A Moonlight Massacre” – a talk on the night operation on the Passchendaele Ridge, 2nd December 1917, by Michael LoCicero.

Local GP, Dr. Irfan Malik, who spoke on the unique contribution of 460 volunteer soldiers from Dulmial Village in what was undivided India and is now Pakistan. For their efforts the community were rewarded by the gift of a British Cannon. The illustrated talk covered where these men served and their involvement in the Great War. 460 men from one small village represented a significant number from a relatively small area, and we learned why this was possible.
