Santa On His Sleigh @ Touring Ruddington

Santa Claus will be visiting our village again this year, thanks to the Rotary Club of Keyworth and Ruddington.

Santa and his sleigh have become popular annual fixtures in the village, touring our streets and estates each December to get everyone in the spirit and to raise money for good causes.

As always, Father Christmas will be joined by his little helpers, with volunteers from Ruddington Colts FC and the Friends of James Peacock helping to spread festive cheer around the village. With seasonal tunes aplenty, Santa’s visits are great fun for the children, so please show our local Rotary Club your support and give generously if you can.

Here are this year’s dates and places:

Tuesday 12th December
Churchill Drive estate, Old Station Road and Pasture Lane estate

Wednesday 13th December
Camelot Street, Clifton Road, Packman Drive and Rufford Road

Tuesday 19th December
Musters Road, Barleylands and Elms Park

Join GCRN for a steam-train trip through beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside with Father Christmas!

Always popular with children, this is the best chance for them to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas.  Youngsters receive a quality gift during their journey and everyone will receive seasonal refreshments.*

Booking is essential so do not delay as their Santa trains are very popular and do fill up a long way in advance. GCRN’s shop and cafeteria will be open for gifts, drinks and snacks. The miniature railway and model railways will both be operating, too.

All services depart from and return to Ruddington.  Santa Special Services operate every Saturday and Sunday from 26th November through to 24th December. You can find details of how to book, the fares applicable for each day and the advance booking form >>HERE<<.

Rail enthusiasts may be interested to know that this year the Santa Specials will be hauled by  LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-0 – 46521 (pictured) which is on loan from GCR PLC and the Loughborough Standard Locomotive Group.

*Special dietary requirements should be advised to GCRN at the time of booking.

Remember on Sundays you can access GCRN direct from Nottingham, West Bridgford and Ruddington village centre using the Nottingham City Transport 10C service.

Move & Mingle Health Walk @ Rushcliffe Country Park, Education Room

Rushcliffe Country Park “Move And Mingle” events are part of Rushcliffe Health Walks.

These are a guided health walks every Wednesday at 10.30am, starting at the education centre in the Country Park. The route varies from week to week around the park, usually no longer than 2 miles. The walk leader will adapt the route to suit the walkers – with a choice of walks to match your fitness and level of ability: a 30 minute shorter walk around the lake: or a longer walk of up to an hour.

ALSO: Friends of RCP coffee mornings take place from 10am until 12.00 noon on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. So you’re invited to “Linger By The Lake” for refreshments after the walk on these days.

Royal British Legion Film Night @ St Peter's Rooms

The Ruddington Branch is putting on monthly film nights in the village – featuring classic movies at St Peter’s Rooms – to raise funds for The Royal British Legion.

‘The Polar Express’.

The Royal British Legion is a UK Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Members get together through the network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas to participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities.

The Ruddington branch says “Membership is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and support for those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.”

Diesel Train Rides @ Great Central Railway

Services operate from Ruddington to Loughborough Junction (via East Leake) and will be hauled by Heritage Diesel on the Yellow Timetable at 1030, 1215, 1400 and 1545.

All their facilities will be open including Miniature Railway, Model Railway, Heritage Transport section, Cafe, Visitor Centre, Children’s Play Area and the Gift Shop.

Move & Mingle Health Walk @ Rushcliffe Country Park, Education Room

Rushcliffe Country Park “Move And Mingle” events are part of Rushcliffe Health Walks.

These are a guided health walks every Wednesday at 10.30am, starting at the education centre in the Country Park. The route varies from week to week around the park, usually no longer than 2 miles. The walk leader will adapt the route to suit the walkers – with a choice of walks to match your fitness and level of ability: a 30 minute shorter walk around the lake: or a longer walk of up to an hour.

ALSO: Friends of RCP coffee mornings take place from 10am until 12.00 noon on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. So you’re invited to “Linger By The Lake” for refreshments after the walk on these days.

Ruddington History Society Meeting @ St Peter's Rooms

Ruddington Local History & Amenity Society exists to research and promote the history of Ruddington and the surrounding area.

Activities include a series of lectures, which run from October to March, summer outings and running the Village Museum from Easter to September. Meetings are open to members and visitors and take place on Wednesday evenings at 8pm in the Main Hall at St Peter’s Rooms.

Visitors are welcome at the society’s meetings and events, although membership is available for just £8.00 per year (£10 per couple).

Rushcliffe Parkrun is a weekly 5km run – you against the clock – every Saturday at 9:00am.

It’s run in Rushcliffe Country Park, Nottingham, NG11 6JS. This is the course…

It costs nothing to join in but you’re asked to register before your first run. Only ever register with Parkrun once. Don’t forget to take a printed copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won’t get a time.

And you’re welcome along whatever your pace!

Wherever possible organisers urge you to walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.

Every week they grab a post Parkrun coffee at The Education Centre by the lake where all are invited to socialise afterwards.
